Pesto with Farm Grown Basil


  • 2 C packed fresh basil leaves, stems removed
  • 2 large garlic cloves (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 C olive oil
  • 1/3 C pine nuts (or walnuts)
  • 1/2 to 3/4 C freshly grated Parmesan or Romano cheese


  1. In a food processor or blender, combine basil leaves, garlic, salt and pepper. 
  2. Process until puréed. 
  3. Scrape sides of work bowl often to push basil down.
  4. Add olive oil in a steady stream while continuing to process.
  5. Add nuts and process until smooth.
  6. Add cheese and process until just blended.

Yields about 1 cup
