Nantucket Island Run for Recovery
September 30 at 9:00 am - 11:00 am
September is National Recovery Month, and Nantucket Rising is collaborating with Bartlett’s Farm and the Nantucket community to sponsor a 5K Fun Run for Recovery. The purpose of National Recovery Month is to increase awareness of mental health and substance use disorders and to celebrate recovery!
We all know someone who’s experienced problems with addiction or mental illness, or maybe we have ourselves. Either way, the Nantucket Island Run for Recovery offers us all a chance to come together and celebrate the power and joy of recovery!
The purpose of the Nantucket Island Run for Recovery is to:
1) Raise awareness about prevention and treatment options for islanders
2) Decrease stigma and increase understanding
3) Raise funds to support Addiction Solutions of Nantucket
4) Offer hope and celebrate recovery!
Participants will meet at Bartlett’s Farm – Nantucket Island’s oldest and largest family owned farm – and walk to the start of the race.
This 5K race is a scenic, flat, out and back course that begins and ends on the dirt roads near Bartlett’s Farm. Runners and walkers will proceed along West Miacomet Road until we come to the iconic spot where Miacomet Pond meets the Atlantic Ocean. We will continue along West Miacomet Road as it veers north, parallel to the pond. Running almost the complete length of the pond, athletes will then reach the half-way point and turn around. Here we get a chance to take in the spectacular view of Miacomet Pond with the Atlantic Ocean in the background as we head back to Bartlett’s Farm.
Whether you live on Nantucket year-round, have been visiting the island for years, or are new to “the rock”; the unique beauty of this scenic course will leave you breathless!
Come help us raise awareness and celebrate recovery together!
Because when it comes right down to it, we’re all recovering from something!
