French Finds – Mountain cheese & a jammy red VDF. yum!

Agour’s Mendia cheese is a prime Pyrenees sheep’s milk cheese from the French side of the mountains.  This cheese is a shining example of balance – both firm and smooth, sharp and mellow.  The buttery salty paste melts in your mouth and is supremely satisfying.  Aromas lean to the funk side of things but the paste couldn’t be more approachable.  If you’re someone who usually reaches for Manchego, give this wedge a go instead; you’ll probably find yourself pleasantly surprised.

With our sheepy little beaut, we’re pouring a downright delicious Grenache from the Rhone.  Frederic Agneray’s Gare du Nord is a bomb of fresh fruit with notes of strawberries and ripe plums.  Plush perfumes and warm red fruits are a delightful welcome with nice peppery spice on the finish to round out and refresh on the finish.  Best served slightly chilled with friends – if you can bring yourself to share that is.
