The Farm

the farm acres

acres of cultivated land

Bartlett’s Farm has been family-owned and operated for seven generations, dating back to William Bartlett’s arrival on Nantucket in the early 1800s. Although we still grow a diverse range of vegetables in our fields, our enterprise has evolved significantly since our modest beginnings. Today, Bartlett’s Farm is the largest and oldest farm on the island, spanning more than 125 acres of cultivated land, much of which has been certified organic or is currently undergoing transition. Our farm provides employment for numerous island families, boasting a full-service market and garden center with over 40 year-round staff members and up to 140 during the summer months. Bartlett’s reputation for delivering dependable, exquisite, and locally grown produce has made us a household name not only on Nantucket but also across New England and beyond.

A family farm since 1843

Phil and Dorothy Bartlett, members of the fifth generation, have passed the Farm’s operations on to their four children, John, Cynthia, David and Daniel, though Phil still puts in many long hours on the tractor each summer. Their goal as a family is simple on paper, harder in practice; pass their one-of-a-kind family heirloom onto their children, as their parents did for them.

As Bartlett’s Farm continues to evolve with the times, the seventh generation of Nantucket Bartletts (nine in all) are learning the family business. In addition to their fresh ideas and energy, organic farming, hemp production and renewable energy are current interests. When you visit the Farm, we encourage you to take in this rich history and be a part of it all. The fields untouched by time, our farm grown vegetables, the field cut flowers; whatever feeds you, we hope you find it at Bartlett’s Farm.
