Bartlett’s Farm Grown

Fresh, Green, Local

Starting in mid-April, we begin harvesting hydroponic lettuces and plants, and flower starts become available in our Garden Center. As the season progresses, our selection only gets better.

Certified Organic

All of our vegetables are grown with care and attention, and many are certified organic. So whether you’re a fan of traditional favorites or looking to try something new, we’ve got you covered. Our farm is the quintessential place to stock up on the freshest, most delicious organic produce on Nantucket.

In Season Availability

From sweet strawberries and radishes to field greens in spring, we’ve got something for every taste. And once high summer hits, we’ve got an abundance of farm-grown produce, including greenhouse and certified organic field-grown tomatoes, peppers, melons, broccoli, summer squash, beans, carrots, scallions, and of course, our customer favorite: organically grown sweet corn.

Farm Grown in Fall

As the summer comes to a close and fall begins, our selection of produce and decorative plants transition to autumn harvests of pumpkins and cabbage to potatoes and more.

Our pumpkins are perfect for carving and decorating, and our harvests of winter squash and potatoes are perfect for creating hearty, warming meals as the weather turns cooler.

But it’s not just about the produce. The fall season brings an abundant selection of decorative plants and flowers, including mums, ornamental peppers, and more, perfect for fall window boxes and planters.

Farm Grown Flowers

As you are driving out to the Farm in summer, you will pass by our iconic flower fields, filled with rows of snapdragons, daisies, sunflowers, cosmos, and at least a dozen other types of organically grown flowers. Out in the fields, our morning crew prepares bunches of flowers to sell on our produce trucks and in the Market. We are also famous for our lily stems. Lilies are harvested in the morning, every day in season, and arrive in the Market around 8 AM…sometimes sooner, sometimes later.

Organic Free Range Eggs

We’re proud to offer the freshest, most delicious free-range organic chicken eggs you’ll ever taste. Our chickens are raised with the highest certified organic standards, ensuring that they are healthy, happy, and free to roam and forage in a natural environment. Our commitment to organic farming means that our chickens are fed only the best, most nutritious feed. They are never given antibiotics or hormones. We take pride in our chickens’ welfare, and we believe that happy chickens lay the best eggs. That’s why we allow our chickens to roam freely, taking in fresh air and sunshine, and enjoying the natural environment around them.

The Farm Grown Crew

Our farm takes great pride in the meticulous care that goes into cultivating our produce. Each ear of corn, leaf of lettuce, and pint of tomatoes is lovingly planted, harvested, weeded, and washed by hand, thanks to our dedicated team of farmers. In total, we welcome 20 seasonal farmers from Jamaica, who are part of the esteemed U.S. Department of Labor’s H2-A program. Our collaboration with the New England Apple Council facilitates their recruitment. While some of our farmers have prior farming experience back home, others are new to the field.

Although a few of our workers may have known each other before joining our farm, the majority come from diverse backgrounds. However, they all share a common sentiment – this opportunity enables them to earn a livelihood that would be difficult to attain in their home country, ultimately supporting their families. Many of our workers are married and have children, which makes leaving their loved ones behind a challenge. However, Xavier, one of our workers, shared that this experience has been the best of his life, and we believe they all express satisfaction and a desire to return.

As an important aspect of the program, we are responsible for covering the travel expenses for our workers to and from Jamaica. Moreover, our workers are exempt from paying rent, and we reimburse them for the visa fees they incur. While the program imposes strict standards, including thorough inspections of housing conditions, such diligence ensures the welfare of our workers. The program’s greatest advantage lies in the ability to retain the same skilled workers each year, which prompted us to transition from the J-1 internship program. Although the J-1 program provided us with capable individuals, the lack of rehiring opportunities necessitated constant retraining, making the H2-A program a more advantageous choice for our farm.

Our Produce Trucks

Since 1843, the Bartlett family has been engaging in the sale of farm-grown produce on Main Street. As a continuation of this beloved Nantucket tradition, our farm upholds the practice every year, specifically between mid June and Labor Day. We operate trucks that offer farm-grown produce for sale six days a week, catering to both the townspeople and visitors in both Main Street and ‘Sconset.
