Lily Update with Fernanda

We checked in with Greenhouse Manager Fernanda Longo on the status of our Farm grown lilies and other cut flowers that are being harvested this spring and beyond. Read below for our flowery details!

“The availability of Asiatic lilies in bunches has been limited since Mother’s Day weekend. There are only a few bunches here and there currently, but we expect them to be consistently available every day within the next week or two. As for Oriental lilies in stems, they are progressing well and should be ready towards the end of the month. We do have a few White Stems available tomorrow, but they are shorter stems and considered an early batch. The popular Crystal Blanca variety will be ready closer to mid-June.

Jamie has been harvesting Anemones and Ranunculus this year, and they have been more consistent compared to previous years. Although the daily harvest quantity is not substantial, these flowers should still be available in the Market for the next 2-3 weeks. Jamie typically restocks approximately 10 bunches every other day. Yesterday, Jamie stocked the first bunches of Calla Lilies. This year’s crop is looking promising with a nice and plentiful yield. We expect to have more and more Calla Lilies available each day until they are depleted, which was around mid-July last year.

The Peony Garden in the Back is looking lush and full, and we anticipate being able to start harvesting peony bunches by the last week of May or the first week of June. There will be a greater quantity of bunches available this year compared to previous years. Last week, we planted the first field flowers in the field. If the weather cooperates, we anticipate starting the usual harvest by the last week of June, with the possibility of a few flowers making an earlier appearance. As for Gladiolas, we are uncertain if they have been planted already, but they have made an appearance. Typically, we can expect them to be ready around mid-July. Please note that these timelines and availability are subject to change depending on weather conditions and other factors.”
