National Beer Lovers Day

September 7th is National Beer Lovers Day! 🍻

We have a lot to love
so it can be hard to choose favorites
but we managed to buckle down and pick a few that we truly love.

The Craft Beer selection at Bartlett’s is one of the largest on island, from smooth lagers to hazy IPA’s, stouts and Ales. Read below to see some of our current favorites in stock! What’s your favorite beer?

Forever New England Gameday IPA – Cisco Brewers

Gameday is a sessionable, slightly hazy IPA at 5.4% ABV and was first launched August 2022 to celebrate the tradition, legacy, and the fans of New England Patriots per the Cisco website. The collaboration between Cisco and the Patriots was brought on through Anheuser-Busch, after Cisco joined their Brewers Collective in 2020. Gameday is my first choice whenever I’m at Cisco on a fine summer day or a brisk afternoon in the Fall. Cisco Brewers has exploded in popularity over the last few years with locations in Boston’s Seaport, New Bedford, and Portsmouth in addition to the original Nantucket location at 5 Bartlett Farm Road. While they’ve become highly fashionable as of late, they stay true to their roots and provide a high quality product & experience for locals and visitors alike. The open air courtyard holds a place near and dear to much of our staff’s hearts, open year-round and a stones throw from the Farm, it’s a frequent after-work stop for those of us that are of legal age. Allagash White – Allagash Brewing Company

Allagash White is a Belgian-style Wheat Beer punching in at 5.2% ABV. “Our award-winning interpretation of a Belgian-style wheat beer is brewed with oats, malted wheat and raw wheat for a hazy ‘white’ appearance. Spiced with our own special blend of coriander and Curaçao orange peel, Allagash White upholds the Belgian tradition of beers that are both complex and refreshing” says the Brewing Co. Allagash is one of my personal favorites, it’s my go-to whenever I see it on tap at any bar or restaurant. A smooth and refreshing taste and a beautiful looking pour, you really can’t go wrong with it on any occasion. Allagash Brewing Co. hails from Portland, Maine, a Mecca for craft beer enthusiasts. They say competition breeds excellence and Allagash embodies that sentiment; Shipyard, Maine Beer Co., Bissell Bros, and a dozen more all call the area home. Full disclosure, I maybe a little biased here, I went to the University of Maine and Allagash was the first option at every stop; don’t take my word for it, find out for yourself! Conehead IPA – Zero Gravity Brewing

Conehead is an All Citra-hopped IPA brewed with Pilsner Malt and American Wheat; a beautiful golden hazy pour with bright and juicy flavors per the Zero Gravity site. Ringing in at 5.7% ABV, and brewed year-round. A friendly face seen around the Farm Market for years, Riley, swears by Conehead and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him buy anything else. I tried it myself for the first time recently and I must say, he’s onto something here! A great looking beer in a tall glass, golden & hazy, but not too heavy; goes down easy for IPA fanatics and lovers of good craft beer. Zero Gravity calls Burlington, Vermont – a well-known spot for craft beer-  home. Spending 5 winters in Orono, Maine taught me that good beer is essential to making it through the yearly deep-freeze. Burlington is no different! Zero Gravity provides it for their community, and for those of us fortunate enough to live below the arctic circle. Find more at Zerogravity.com

Dragon Stout Original – Dragon Stout

According to their website, Dragon Stout is Jamaica’s best kept secret; a perfect blend of pilsen & roasted malt, sugar, hops, water and caramel coloring that’s been enjoyed by many since 1920. This beer comes in hot at 7.5% ABV, but you’d never know it by the taste of it. Stouts have never been on the top of my list, so I would never have found the Dragon on my own, but I was fortunate enough to be shown the way by some of my favorite coworkers. Bartlett’s currently has a crew of twenty outstanding guys from Jamaica that plant & harvest all of our farm grown produce & flowers.  They work as many hours as the sun allows and then go home for dinner and occasionally a couple cold ones, almost always Dragon Stout. They keep the fridge full and it makes an appearance at any Farmily gathering. The first time I went over to their house they would not let me drink the beer I had, instead insisting that I try theirs; the Dragon Stout was great and not at all what I was expecting. I think it’s good advice for anyone that enjoys a good beer and good time with friends. Find more at Dragonstout.com

Honey Crisp Hard Cider – Carlson Orchards

The Honey Crisp cider from Carlson Orchards, out of Harvard, MA, is a semi-sweet cider made with freshly pressed apples and organic wildflower honey, 4.5% ABV and available 365 days of the year. I know, I know, this isn’t a beer, but this cider is one of the best cold beverages in the state of Massachusetts. Carlson Orchards is a family-run operation of 100+ acres growing apples, stone fruits, blueberries, raspberries and cherries. ‘Family farm’ hits close to home for us at Bartlett’s, and we’ve been selling their fruits and ciders in our market for as long as I can remember. Mj, a face any Bartlett’s regular should know and love, swears by Carlson products and has a little happy dance when we get the Carlson peaches in the market every year. The cider is brewed in Leominster MA, with all-natural 100% real apples, no preservatives, additives or added sugars; that deliciously sweet flavor is 100% real! Seriously, it’s like getting smacked in the face with a fresh honeycrisp. The only negative is they go down to easily, a 4-packs gone in 30 minutes if you’re not careful, but if you can muster up the willpower to pace them, it’s a delicious treat that will make your whole afternoon.
